Planning Permission Granted For South Kerry Greenway

AN Bord Pleanala has granted planning permission (subject to conditions) for the €20m South Kerry Greenway which has the potential to transform tourism in the area.

The Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr Patrick Connor-Scarteen has welcomed the decision for the development of the South Kerry Greenway which will be a 32-kilometre route from Renard to Glenbeigh for cyclists and pedestrians.

Cllr Connor-Scarteen said the decision to approve the project represents an enormous boost for the county and for south Kerry in particular.

“I am delighted that An Bord Pleanála has given this project the green light. This greenway will bring huge tourism, social and economic benefits to the entire south Kerry area and I look forward to its construction at the earliest opportunity,’ he said.

Kerry County Council is currently considering the details contained in the An Bord Pleanála decision and will comment further in due course.

The greenway was the subject of a four-week oral hearing by An Bord Pleanala last October and November.
