• Paved pedestrian walkways throughout he site

• A main paved area surrounding retained feature chimney

• A pocket park with a digital interactive children’s play area

• Raised semi-circular shallow amphitheatre sitting area next the chimney

• Extensive planting along always — raised planters

• Street furniture including bike stands and seating, signature public lighting

• Provision of power outlets for multiple users, including market stalls, e-bike charging etc.

• Permanent umbrellas (similar to those in The Square, Killorglin)

• Formation of four main green spaces which are designed as future development sites.

• A modern steel structure is to be installed on top of the chimney extending its height from 15m to 32m resembling its original height. The structure will feature landmark lettering and feature lighting, the objective of which is to create an impressive landmark for the town.

The office development will contain a retail/restaurant/cafe unit on the ground floor of a 3,700 square metre building. Both plans were approved unanimously by councillors.

The office building to be built at the Island of Geese.

A retail/restaurant/café unit on the ground floor!

Speaking as someone with no vested business interests in the town.
I can not help but notice the sheer amount of vacant retail/restaurant/café units in Tralee town centre already, I have never seen so many in all my lifetime.

“Approved unanimously by councillors” says a lot the calibre of their leadership for the town?
Just look at Killarney town centre, they too have a retail park on their outskirts to compete with and they do not have the growing vacant unit rate like in Tralee.

Hence, the people of Tralee can expect even more vacant units in Tralee town centre in the future with ignorant attitudes like this.

  2. Not a speck of imagination… Tralee needs a major ‘Titanic’ type tourist attraction to bring visitors to the town. This cliche of retail and office will lie vacant…shame on councillors.

Congratulations to all concerned…Biodiversity in every sense of the word
