PLANS for the annual Tralee Food Festival have been put ‘on ice’ for the moment until later in the year.

The event has proved a huge success over the past few years with the 2019 festival the best so far having moved to the May Bank Holiday weekend.

However, like many other events, the organisers issued a statement this afternoon with the news that it will not take place in three weeks time.

“The Food Festival will happen, but only when the time is right,” reads the statement. “We are not cancelling our festival; we are just putting our plans ‘on ice’. When the time is right, when sanctions are lifted and collectively the nation is allowed to meet again, when the guidance from Government permits…then, whenever that may be in 2020, we will host the Tralee Food Festival, and we want this to be part of a greater celebration, a Tralee Day!”

“We want to thank our supporters and sponsors over the past number of years for their ongoing help in growing the Tralee Food Festival, and we will be looking for their commitment to continuing their support of the festival into the future.”

“Small businesses, in particular hotels, local shops, pubs, restaurants and local food producers all need our support now more than ever. So much opportunity has already past them, missed celebrations, missed events, missed festivals – the entire season has been put on hold, but we cannot entirely abandon the year. These small businesses will need a kick-start when the time is right to re-open again.

They will need all our support to lift them and save their businesses. Our community will come out of it’s cocoon, our healthcare and frontline friends will need to unwind, and our town will need to applaud.

We want Tralee Food Festival to be held as part of a great celebration of all that is good about Tralee, a celebration of all that we will have missed during the year.”
