Colin ‘Poshey’ Aherne finishes the Rose of Tralee 10k to complete the Town2Town Challenge.

A TRALEE man has thanked everyone who donated to a marathon cycle he took part in last weekend in aid of three charities.

Colin ‘Poshey’ Aherne took part in the Town2Town Challenge, a three day event, raising money for Make A Wish Ireland, Friends of A & Donal Walsh #LiveLife.

He joined 35 other participants on a cycle over 400km from Dundalk to Tralee over two days starting on Saturday, August 18 with an overnight stop in Moneygall and finally the Rose of Tralee 10km run on the Sunday.

“I heard of the challenge off a friend and then I saw Donal Walsh LiveLife Foundation was one of the chosen charities so that was the motivation I needed,” said Poshey.

“I felt good doing the 10k, I was still on a high after the cycle. It was good to be able to cycle home from Dundalk and landing at The Rose Hotel leading 35 cyclists was amazing,” he said.

Dick and Eileen Henngeler of the Rose Hotel with the Town2Town Challenge cyclists.

Mentally I felt great. I was surrounded by 35 amazing cyclists and crew who treated me like their own, looked after me and made sure I was ok. I was a little sore on Tuesday and will probably take me a week to catch up on the tiredness — it’s normal after such a tough challenge.

“I want to thank all the cyclists and crew and also everyone who donated and my sponsor the Ashe Hotel and AdrenalinSports,” said Poshey. You can still donate to the charity by clicking here to go to their gofundme page.
