‘State Of Exception’.
CATHERINE Young’s new dance piece ‘State of Exception’ comes to Siamsa Tíre, Tralee on this Sunday at 8pm.
Catherine has been working in Kerry for many years with dance professionals, community groups, schools and most recently with refugees and asylum seekers.
Her dance piece ‘Welcoming the Stranger’ in 2016 was very successful at Féile Fáilte on Banna Strand and as part of Culture Night at Siamsa Tíre.

‘Welcoming the Stranger’ went on to open the Ramallah Contemporary Dance Festival in Palestine in 2017 with performances in both Ramallah and Jerusalem.
Inspired by these experiences of making work with refugees, asylum seekers and her journey to the Middle East, Catherine’s new work ‘State of Exception’ takes us right to the heart of the necessity to reach across, connect and to find a home in the common that binds us all.
This powerful new dance features a cast of outstanding Irish and international performers, who delve into the world of ‘the other’ to try to tear down the borders that divide.
Catherine’s work is supported by the Arts Council, Siamsa Tire – National Folk Theatre of Ireland, Project Arts Centre, Dublin City Council, Backstage Theatre, Shawbrook, Longford County Council, Kerry County Council, Dance Limerick, Dance Ireland, and Firkin Crane.
Catherine will be working in Kerry again from April as Dancer in Residence, funded by the Arts Council and Kerry County Council and now also supported by the Trustees of Muckross and Creative Ireland.

The reality of our changing society and the utterly different world our children will inherit from us is the result of a demographic winter that the peoples of the West caused and our children will be the victims of, unless they start having more children.
