LEAVING Certificate Pres Tralee students were given a great opportunity on Friday last to hear from an enthusiastic cohort of the school’s past pupils on the career paths they have chosen.
Using the format of a parent teacher meeting, students were enabled to work in small groups with past pupils.
This initiative, now in its fifth year, co-ordinated by Guidance Counsellors Mary Mulcahy and Bridin Kearney, has proven to be popular with Leaving Certs to make them feel more assured and confident.
A number of career areas were represented including Arts, Social Science, Food Science, Early Childhood Care &Education, Business, Education, Law, Languages, Communications, Music, I.C.T, Engineering, Occupational Therapy, Sport &Exercise Science, Medicine and Pharmacy.
Topics on the day included Course structure/content/options, Work Placement, Studying abroad, Post Graduate opportunities, Accommodation, Mentor System, Tutorial system, Assessment and Exams, Scholarships/Grants.
“We are indebted to our past pupils who offer invaluable advice on course content, career prospects and the highs and lows of college life,” said Ms.Mulcahy.
