WRITERS and eager literary enthusiasts will flock to the Dingle Peninsula for the return of the Dingle Lit Festival from November 19-21.

It will be a return to the traditional festival format and building on the success of the 2020 festival, this year Dingle Lit brings a hybrid programme of events, broadcasting live from the stunning Díseart to include literary chats from world-class writers.

Dingle Lit will welcome President of Ireland Michael D Higgins to Chorca Dhuibhne. The President comes to Dingle to discuss his most recent publication ‘Reclaiming the European Street’.

In his collection of speeches on European themes, he points to a weakening of solidarity and rising inequalities and highlights the need to learn lessons from the past.

In a further literary coup, Claire Keegan will discuss her eagerly anticipated new novel ‘Small Things Like These’.

Described as ‘delicately wrought’, her wintery parable tells the story of a simple act of courage and tenderness, in the face of conformity, fear and judgement.

Author and historian, Diarmaid Ferriter will discuss his new book ‘Between Two Hells’, a fascinating exploration of the Civil War and its impact upon Ireland and Irish politics in the following half-century.

Singer songwriter Declan O’Rourke will chat about his debut novel ‘The Pawnbroker’s Reward’, while the short story will be celebrated with Nicole Flattery, John Patrick McHugh, Éilis Ní Dhuibhne and Evelyn Conlon. Events with Carlo Gebler and Catherine Merrigan will further add to the riches.

Irish language events are aplenty with Declan Kiberd, hAlex Hijmans and Victor Bayla, as well as a sprinkling of magical storytelling events for children.

From further lands and building on the success of the 2020 online festival, Dingle Lit brings writers to readers in their own homes to share stories from Carol Drinkwater, Emma Dabiri, Colm Tobin, Kevin Barry and Paul Muldoon.

Festival Director, Sheila O’Reilly is delighted to welcome readers and writers back to Dingle Lit 2021 ‘We are so excited to bring literature and culture back to the venues, bars and streets of Dingle, to celebrate Ireland’s world-class writers and to welcome more from overseas to continue the online conversations we started in 2020’.

Full festival programme available on www.dinglelit.ie and tickets go on sale on 6th October 2021.
