Team Brogue has already defeated a very strong team in the 1st round against Sligo All Stars, and Saturday’s game will prove to be another step up with a team who scored 102 points in their last outing.

The Dublin side have ex-superleague player Scott Kinavane and a very solid running team. Team Brogue have Ryan leonard Irish under 18 who is averaging 30 points a game, backed up with Garry Fernane and Garry Murphy with the big rebounding presents of John Dowling inside on the boards.

Tralee Imperials’ coach Mark Bernsen said: “Team Brogue is an exciting group of Irish Basketballers made up of both young and old athletes. With the age of the team being from 17-30 the common thread that runs through the team is one of confidence and unselfishness. They enjoy playing for a common goal of being successful both on and off the court. From young lads led by Ryan Leonard and Gary Fernane to an older group led by Gary Murphy and John Dowling they bring a level of not only a great work ethic but also one of fun and enthusiasm.”

Club Chairman, John Dowling, said the team owes a great debt of appreciation and gratitude to their sponsors, Kirby’s Brogue Inn.

“Entering into the Intermediate cup was a lot down to the sponsorship that the Brogue are giving us,” he said. “This is our 1st year senior and travelling for this competition does cost but with Kevin and Fiona’s help it has been made possible and for that we are very grateful.”

“We are so happy to be sponsoring Team Brogue this year,” said Fiona Kirby of Kirby’s Brogue Inn. “Tralee Imperials is a fabulous club with great structure. We are looking forward to following the team and we hope that we can help to bring the top level of basketball back to the town of Tralee.”
