THE young goalkeepers at Fenit Samphires FC received some expert coaching at the weekend from the Swansea City goalkeeping coach.

Dean Thornton is holidaying in Tralee with his partner Sinead and baby daughter Maddie, where his father-in-law, Anthony Hanafin, resides.

Dr John Chute, whose son David plays underage with the club, found out through Anthony that Dean was in town, so Anthony asked him would he amenable to giving the kids some tips.

West London native Dean duly obliged on Saturday morning and the young keepers received expert coaching which was much appreciation by all in the club.

“It’s fantastic, we have 13 keepers — boys and girls — here today and you can see the interest they have,” said Dave Stanton, the Chairman of the Club.

Dean Thornton is just 34, but has 15 years of coaching experience to his name, having had to retire from playing while in his teens due to injuries both on and off the field during his time with Wycombe Wanderers.

His coaching career has taken in stints at QPR, Swindon, the Taiwan national team and MK Dons before his current role in Wales.
