TRALEE Educate Together National School recently hosted an Open Day in the beautiful surroundings of Collis Sandes House, providing an opportunity for prospective parents to meet the staff and get to know the recently appointed principal, Mary Brosnan.

Mary, a native of Lispole, took up her position last September, began her career in Dublin where she taught for some years before moving to Japan in 1985.

In Tokyo, she taught English in the corporate world before taking up a position in an international school. During her years with the school Mary steadily rose in seniority, finally becoming the Curriculum Coordinator for the primary school.

While there, she gained invaluable experience in new and innovative approaches to teaching and learning.

Returning to Ireland with her husband and young son, she took up a position as Resource and Learning Support Teacher at Kilcolgan Educate Together National School in Galway, where she taught for six years.

Here, she was able to pass on her considerable expertise and experience and was the driving force behind some popular innovations such as Student Led Conferences.

Mary, who is an enthusiastic advocate of the Educate Together ethos, said: “Tralee Educate Together National School is a main-stream school providing the same curriculum as other schools, but with an ethos based on the four principles of Educate Together: Multi-denominational, Co-Educational, Child-centred and Democratically-run. The school has a very active Student Council and Parents Association. Indeed, parental involvement in school affairs and school links with the outside community are key aspects of Tralee Educate Together National School. We love our location, nestled in the Nuns’ Wood where the children enjoy regular nature walks and exercise activities.”

Tralee Educate Together National School is now enrolling and children currently attend from Tralee Town, Causeway, Lixnaw, Castlegregory, Ballyheigue, Milltown, Blennerville, Ardfert, Camp and Killarney.
