THE local branch of the Irish Red Cross is getting on board with an initiative to get people moving, more healthy and also to bring the community together.

The Healthy Steps active lifestyle programme was developed to address health issues and promote social inclusion in communities around Ireland.

The service is a community led, healthy lifestyle programme which also aims to assist local Irish Red Cross Branches in engaging with their local communities.

The programme aims to address a number of issues currently being experienced in Irish communities including obesity and social exclusion.

As each walking group consists of members of local communities supported by Irish Red Cross Volunteers and partners, it is a simple, yet effective programme which aims to build community resilience and promotes healthy lifestyles.

Each walk will be a minimum of 5km and last approximately one hour. The Irish Red Cross walking groups themselves will be open to all ages and fitness levels in the local community but it should be noted that anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

If you are interested in getting involved in the Tralee group, the first walk will begin on Sunday 28th October @ 11.30am, meeting at the Museum, Denny Street and will run every Sunday thereafter for six weeks.

For more information please contact communitysupport.tralee@irishredcross.com or by phoning Cormac on 087 393 1359. All are welcome to attend.
