THE 65-strong cast of Annie are being put through their paces ahead of the Light Opera Society of Tralee’s production of Annie next week.

Rehearsals are in full swing for the show which takes place at Siamsa Tire from Thursday to Saturday, September 25th to 27th with matinees for schools on Thursday and Friday, September 25th and 26th at 10am and a Saturday afternoon matinee for families at 2.30pm.

Directed by Aidan O’ Carroll and choreographed by Aisling O’Carroll, ‘Annie’ is set during the 1930’s in post-Wall Street Crash America.

For many, Annie is a corny tale of a sometimes brash, freckled, redheaded monster-child’s adoption by a billionaire industrialist.

“The Light Opera Society’s production sees the story more as an opportunity to hold the mirror up to the reality of life in post-boom Ireland. The parallels are remarkably striking,” said Aidan O’Carroll.

“The message is that truth, friendship, empathy and, above all, a sense of humour are what enable us to deal with life and this is delivered in a fast-paced, colourful, easily followed production,” said Aidan.

The show abounds in hit song and dance numbers such as ‘Tomorrow’, ‘Maybe’, ‘I think I’m gonna like it here’, ‘NYC’, ‘Easy St.’ and ‘It’s a hard knock life’.
