There was to be no yellow brick road to the Munster Intermediate Club Hurling Final for Lixnaw when the went down to Charleville in Hermitage Park on Saturday.

Lixnaw led by four points after nine minutes but as soon as Charleville got their goal against the wind in the first half they just clicked their heels and set off for home.

Charleville went ahead 1-04 to 0-06 in front after seventeen minutes against the wind and even though Brendan Brosnan levelled matters, Lixnaw would trail for the rest of the game.

Lixnaw did claw it back to one point at halftime when the scoreline read Lixnaw 0-09 Charleville 1-07, but the signs were ominous for Lixnaw as Charleville were playing the tidier hurling and spurned a goal chance earlier in the half.

Charleville had the first score of the second half but Lixnaw replied and brought the score to 0-11 to 1-10, but they were not to score again and were presented with very few clearcut chances.

.

The scoreboard got stuck on eleven points as if it knew Lixnaw would not score again, Charleville tagged on the points attacking form every area of the field led by their all star midfielder Darragh Fitzgibbon who ended up with five points to his name.

A late addition to the starting line up for Charleville was Kevin O’Connor he was very influential also but it was the commanding presence of their full back line that drove this victory, they gave the Lixnaw inside forwards a very torrid time, Finbar Cagney made several sorties up the field from defence and on one of these sorties he drove over a beautiful point.

Lixnaw battled hard to the end but their lack of fire power up front and the pace and skill off Charleville meant that they were on the back foot from once the goal went in.
