Tralee CBS 4-13

Bandon 0-07

This quarter-final decider of the Corn Ui Mhuiri was played in Fitzgerald Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.

With Bandon topping their group and with Tralee CBS coming in second place to St Brendan’s, Killarney in theirs, Bandon were tipped to win this game.

These two sides had met previously at U16.5 level with Bandon running away victorious, which made this game even more enticing.

The Green grabbed the first score of the game with Joe Lenihan getting the score but it was shortly replied by Bandon with a point of their own.

The first goal chance came after a solo run from Jordan Kissane from his own half which was slipped onto Joe Lenihan who played Sean Quilter through and Quilter made no mistake, placing the ball into the back of the net.

Both sides traded points for the remainder of the first half with Conor Hayes and Sean Quilter (3f) getting the scores for the Green. HT: Tralee CBS 1-05 to Bandon 0-5

In the second half, The Green were the ones to come firing out of the blocks with Quilter (f) kicking the first score of the half but Bandon kickout was turned over and punished by ruthless Cian Purcell who got The Green’s second goal.

The Green added two more points from Sean Quilter (f) and Conor Hayes before Bandon registered their first point of the second half.

This was followed up by The Green’s third goal by Fergal O’Brien who blasted the ball into the roof of the net. Bandon only managed to kick one more point for the last 20 minutes as a result of disciplined and strong tackling from the Green’s backs.

The Green scored 1-5 without reply in this period with points coming from Sean Quilter (3,1f), Conor Hayes (f) and Fergal O’Brien; the goal came from a rebounded shot by Jordan Kissane who finished well the second time of asking.

A well earned win puts Tralee CBS into a Corn Ui Mhuiri semi-final against Rathmore which will be an intriguing game as Rathmore won in these two sides previous game in O’Sullivan Cup earlier on in the year.

Man of the match goes to Jordan Kissane; the athletic wing forward worked hard throughout with many scores coming from his darting runs from his own half to open up defences.
