Following their impressive win over Lixnaw in the quarters of this competition last weekend, Causeway installed themselves as firm favourites to win this competition when they overcame a young St Brendan’s side yesterday.

I believe all of the St Brendan’s side are underage again next year.

Causeway were only in bother for a few minutes when St Brendan’s came within a point of them on 15 minutes when Bobby O’Regan goaled to leave the score Causeway 1-3 St Brendan’s 1-2.

Prior to that Stephen Murphy had opened the scoring with a goal, Joseph Diggins and Brandon Barrett added points, Eric Leen added a pointed free for St Brendan’s.

On 27 minutes, Brandon Barrett put Causeway back in command when he shook the net. Gary Carey had two points before halftime and Joe Diggins had one. In-between Eric Leen pointed a free to leave the halftime score Causeway 2-6 St Brendan’s 1-3.

The young St Brendan’s side faced into a stiff breeze in the second half.  By the  15th minute they found themselves behind with the scoreboard reading Causeway 2-10 St Brendan’s 1-4.

Seven minutes later, Joe Diggins found himself one and one with Shane McCrohan and finished to the net, 3-11 now to 1-5. Both St Brendan’s points in the second half coming from Eric Leen from placed balls.

Prior to Joe Diggins goal, Gary Cary saw a great goal chance skim past the post wide. St Brendan’s stand out man Fionan MacKessey blasted a 20 metre free to the net while most of his hurley went went wide. Final Score Causeway 3-13 St Brendan’s 2-5.
