Eamonn Fitzmaurice

Eamonn Fitzmaurice.

IT is expected that Eamonn Fitzmaurice will be retained as Kerry senior football team boss for a further two years at tonight’s county committee meeting.

The Kerry manager agreed to stay on for one year after last year’s All-Ireland final defeat to Dublin, but reports in the national media this morning suggest he’ll stay on to attempt to guide Kerry to All-Ireland success over the next two years.

Fitzmaurice was appointed manager in August, 2012 and has won one All-Ireland and four Munster titles in the four year period. With many promising young players to emerge over the next couple of years, he will be hoping to mould a championship winning side to end Dublin’s recent dominance over the Kingdom.

  1. Mark O' Connor says:

Eamonn Fitz is not the man to lead Kerry forward. Would have been hammered only for two lucky goals. Dublin won an unprecedented fourth successive Championship win over Kerry and people want Fitz to continue? Now that’s an inferiority complex.

A proper analysis will show fundamental flaws in his set up:
    – kick out strategy: half the Kerry kick outs were lost in the first half against Dublin.(Brian Sheehan should be tried in goal for upcoming league)
    – playing Aidan O’ Mahony as a sweeper: no pace and every time he received the ball he stopped instead of looking for the return pass and creating the extra man
    – older players should not be starting – Donaghy, O’Mahony, Gooch and O’ Shea.
    – match ups wrong – Griffin should have man marked Connolly etc.
    – no clue how to use extra man, corner backs should be encouraged to go forward when loose with someone else covering.
    – no clue on how to slow down the game as Dublin the better athletes.
    – in all previous matches he left a big gap between the half back and full back lines for Brogan to thrive.
    – No free taker for 45’s on pitch.
    Bring back Jack O’Connor fast

  2. Proud kerry supporter, I think the break or the bounce of the ball has not gone Eamons way in the last two years, and a lot of things have being said about both management, young & old players , no disrespect to Dublin or any other team that beat us but to be Honest I think we have being making things easy for the opposition,
I think all the grown ups in kerry football should have a good look at things, we don’t need any great tactician to win Sam back, Kerry has it all at the moment please guys
Sit down and talk , Let go out in to 2017 & tear Sam maguire of off either Mayo or Dublin with or teeth, hunger
P.S best of luck to whoever has the privilege,
    Up the Kingdom.
