THERE were big wins for both Crotta O’Neill’s and Abbeydorney/Parnells in the minor championship yesterday evening.

Abbeydorney/Parnells overcame Kilmoyley in the beautiful sod that is Kilmoyley pitch, given all the rain that fell during the day the condition of the pitch was brilliant.

Abbeydorney/Parnells were always in charge in this game as they led at halftime on a scoreline of 3-8 to 0-5. They ran out easy winners with the final score reading Abbeydorney/Parnells 5-17 Kilmoyley 0-05.

I guess it’s a reflection on the numbers available to both Abbeydorney that they had to team up with Parnells to compete in the competition, Kilmoyley also have a small number of players at their disposal.

A charge of €5 at the gate in both games did not provide the patrons with any type of programme. This is a pity as for most neutrals as the young players would not be well known. The young hurlers deserve better, I’m pretty sure it would not happen in a county minor championship football match.

Lixnaw minors took on the county minor champions Crotta O’Neills in Abbeydorney. Crotta again came out the right side of this game as they did in last year’s final.

Crotta had some a lot of last year’s winning team on duty tonight and it showed against a slighter Lixnaw outfit. Crotta led at halftime 1-12 to Lixnaw’s 2-3.

Things didn’t get much better for Lixnaw in the second half as they were out-hurled and out-muscled with the final score reading Crotta O’Neills 3-18 Lixnaw 2-8.

It was great to see such a large crowd in Abbeydorney to support the young lads.
Once again the set up in Abbeydorney came up trumps and is a credit to the club.
