Taking a look back at some of the news we brought you in November…

• MINISTER for Education and Kerry T.D. Norma Foley today announced project approval for a state-of-the-art extension for Spa National School, Tralee.

This building project will cater for new accommodation on the site of the current school campus.

The extension plan will deliver a new mainstream classroom as well as two bespoke rooms to cater for the provision of special education.

• THERE were Tralee winners announced at the Hi Style Awards 2022 last weekend in Cork.

Maureen McCarthy of Brush N Blush, based in Milk Market Lane, won Hi’s Most Stylish Wedding Supplier 2022 at the Cointreau sponsored awards at the Clayton Silver Springs Hotel.

Meanwhile, the Cosmetic and Hair Restoration Clinic at the Bon Secours Hospital in Tralee were also winners picking up the Hi’s Most Stylish Clinic 2022 and Seabody won the Hi’s Best in Wellness Business Product.

• THE Council announced the free parking details for Tralee during the Christmas period.

Parking would be free in Council-owned car parks in the town from Monday, November 28 to Monday, January 2 from 9.30am to 2pm every day, a change from last year when parking was free all day in Council car parks during the same period.

• THERE was a Tralee winner at the AIB Merchant Services Retail Excellence Awards 2022. CH Tralee won the Pharmacy & Health Store of the Year 2022 at the awards held in the Galmont Hotel, Galway

CH Tralee was one of 30 Irish Businesses shortlisted for the Retail Excellence Awards 2022 which have been running since 1997.

• KERRY Football Club were successful in its application to secure an SSE Airtricity First Division License for the 2023 League of Ireland Season.

A statement released by the club, which will be based at Mounthawk Park, on November 16 welcomed the decision by the FAI.

“It has been a dream for many years to provide the highest level of senior football in the Kingdom of Kerry,” read the statement. “Being able to provide this full pathway for all soccer players in Kerry is something that the soccer community has always longed for.”

• A STAR of one of the biggest TV shows on the planet was in West Kerry in November.

Sheehy’s Spar in Dingle shared an Instagram post with a photo of Gaten Matarazzo of ‘Stranger Things’ fame, flanked by two local lads, saying “look who popped in to us today”. Matarazzo is a fan favourite playing Dustin Henderson in the global smash hit series.

• A KERRY player was one of 10 winners to scoop €50,000 in the first draw of National Lottery’s ‘12 Draws of Christmas’ . The player bought their ticket in the Post Office in Edward Street, Tralee.

• TRALEE Municipal District councillors unanimously approved plans for the construction of 27 local authority units to be build at Matt Talbot Road/Island Of Geese.

The development will consist of the construction of 22 one-bedroom units and 5 two-bedroom units. The existing shed and boundary walls on the site will be demolished and there will also  be a new landscaped plaza area with the resurfacing of Rackett Lane with ancillary site works.

• AN extravaganza of family fun was put on in The Square on Saturday, November 26 as the Christmas Lights were switched on and the festive season kicked off in earnest.

After some great entertainment throughout the afternoon, Mayor of Tralee Mikey Sheehy, All-Ireland winning captain Joe O’Connor and Santa Claus pulled the lever to turn on the lights in front of a packed Square.

• THERE was a very sad end to the month in the county when a woman lost her life in road traffic collision in Killarney. Marie Murphy (62) died in the single vehicle collision on the Rock Road.
