A MEETING of two town teams is surely the pick of the opening games in this year’s Garvey’s County Senior Football Championship from a Tralee point of view.
The draw for the Championship took place in Austin Stack Park on Monday evening with four groups of four teams set to battle it out next month.
The draw was overseen by County Board Secretary Peter Twiss, Tomás Garvey and Chairperson of the County Board Patrick O’Sullivan. The semi-finalists from last year’s competition — Dr Crokes, Austin Stacks, Kerins O’Rahillys and St Brendans — were the seeded teams.

Austin Stacks are in the same group as Na Gaeil and they will play each other in the opening round of games on the weekend of September 10/11.
Kerins O’Rahillys will face Dingle, Spa and East Kerry in their group, while St Brendans face the tough challenge of South Kerry, Templenoe and Feale Rangers.
Group 1 consists of Dr Crokes, Shannon Rangers, Kenmare Shamrocks and St Kierans with Dr Crokes v St Kierans and Kenmare Shamrocks v Shannon Rangers the first games.
Group 2 features Kerins O’Rahillys, Spa, Dingle and East Kerry with Kerins O’Rahillys v East Kerry and Dingle v Spa the openers.
Group 3 has Austin Stacks, West Kerry, Mid Kerry and Na Gaeil with a mouth-watering opener of Austin Stacks v Na Gaeil with Mid Kerry v West Kerry the other opener.
Finally, Group 4 has St Brendans, South Kerry, Templenoe and Feale Rangers with Round 1 seeing St Brendans v Feale Rangers and Templenoe v South Kerry.
The opening round of games takes place on the weekend of September 10/11.
