rsz_roger_hartyWHAT is ‘Oneness’?

Well it is absence of ‘Twoness’. I know and accept that this is a corny answer but there might just be something in it.

You see, what I refer to as ‘Twoness’ is often referred to as duality in psychology. Duality, in other words, means moving into the area of something being right or wrong or being good or bad etc.

In other words, there is a certain amount of judgement involved which by it’s very nature can mean uncertainty.

Moving from duality to nonjudgmental, unity consciousness will save energy, time and create world peace. That is what happens when you move from duality to oneness.

Oneness is connecting with our own inner truth, the truth of who we really are. It is often referred to as our ‘inner self’.

I wrote in a previous article about the meaning behind the word ‘personality’ here.

It comes from the Latin word ‘persona’ which means a mask. i.e. what we present to the world but behind this mask lies our true self – ‘the inner – child’.

This ‘inner – child’ is best understood when you look at it through the eyes of ‘energy’

Let’s first examine what I mean by truth – (a) truth isn’t my opinion nor your opinion and (b) truth always works.

We are energy and that is a truth. Science calls it energy – Church refers to it as spirit.

When we connect with our own inner energy we connect with what we truly are. This connection can be readily and easily accessed through the breath – i.e the practice of breath meditation.

The breath acts as an ‘anchor away from the ‘thinking mind’. If this is practiced on a regular basis we can thus develop a relationship with our inner self.

This relationship takes time and practice as does any relationship. It is also only achieved when we remain non – judgemental. This comes as part of the package as how can we be judgemental if we are not thinking.

By doing this we connect with the powerful Oneness that we truly are. The breath is regarded as a porthole, other examples of portholes are when we connect with our Oneness though what we see, hear, taste, touch and smell.

This connection is not easily explained but is best experienced.

For instance going for a long walk on Banna beach on a windy day, taking in the beautiful vista and smelling the sea air – taking it all in, you come away feeling refreshed and magnificent.

It works best if you truly refrain from thinking too much while you are enjoying the walk. At the end of the walk if your body could speak it would say ‘thank you’.

This feeling is hard to describe, it again has to be experienced (through the senses) and if we were to be honest there would be a little voice going off inside you head saying ‘Isn’t it madness that I don’t do this more often’.

This is a clear example of connecting with our Oneness.

This is what Jesus meant when he said ‘Be Still and Know that I am God (Higher Power).

When we follow the message ‘Be Still’ or “I am (is) the way the truth and the life” (note ‘I am’ means living in the present – He didn’t say ‘I was’ or ‘I will be’) we connect with our Oneness. We connect with our energy. We connect with The Now’.

This is why the book ‘The Power of Now’ by Eckhart Tolle has sold over 25 million copies!

This practice of Oneness is available to every human being no matter what religion or be it non-believer.

It was readily practiced by the ancient tribes such as the ‘Aborigines’ the Incas, The Native Americans, The Celts, in fact all of ancient Man.

They were in constant contact with their ‘Oneness’ through the medium of their contact with ‘Mother Earth’.

In modern parlance we refer to this is as ‘being grounded’ and we regularly see people removing their shoes to best connect with their energy ‘Oneness’ – thus when we describe a happy celebration we say ‘we kicked off our shoes last night’.
