rsz_roger_hartyWHEN we accept things just as they are, we are sending clear messages through our thought system to our body that everything is fine just as it is.

Our body thus responds as a result over a period of time with a certain inner calmness that all is well.

There is a great word that is little used in the English language called ‘copasetic’ meaning that everything is totally satisfactory just at this moment.

My father used to use this word on a regular basis – “How are things today Roger?” people would ask.

He would invariably reply ‘copasetic’ (Google it!).

The real beauty of this is that our body feels that it has delivered for us all that we have asked and that we are not looking for anything more just at this moment – right here and now there is freedom from stress (remember I gave a definition of stress in a previous article as stress is being here and trying to be there).

Thus the cells of our body begin to settle down and we become totally at ease just at this moment.

When this ‘settling’ is allowed, amazing things happen within our body. We attain a state of ‘Awareness’ which is difficult to describe in words as we truly connect with our inner selves which our thinking mind (a) will never understand or (b) doesn’t want to understand.

We connect with the inner wisdom of our own bodies. This is the kind of wisdom (body intelligence) that allows our bodies to heal from a cut or from psychological scarring without our thinking mind getting involved – the miracles that are happening within our own bodies on a daily basis. This is what I mean by awareness, the miracle of life itself.

To understand and appreciate what is happening here is best illustrated by using an image – they say a picture can replace a thousand words.

If you ask someone from The Western Hemisphere a very simple question ‘what would you do with a glass of dirty water?’, inevitably you will get the answer –‘throw it out’!

clean-and-dirty-water 2If you asked the same question of someone from The East they would say ‘allow it to settle’.

What happens when we allow the dirty water to settle over time? Amazingly enough, all the dirt sediment goes to the bottom of the glass and at the top we get ‘clear water’.

This clarity that arises is the equivalent of the Awareness that arises within us when we allow our thoughts to settle.

To attain Awareness we must learn to be ‘present’ to live in ’The Now’ to practice ‘mindfulness’ or, if we take and apply the 2000 year old message of Jesus Christ, “Be Still and Know that I Am God”.

When we use the word ‘God’ many people can get confused, argumentative or upset but nobody holds sway over ‘The Now’!

Next week I am going to write about the importance of ‘Attitude’.
