Roger Harty: Spirit v Energy

rsz_roger_hartyIF I pose to you a simple question – what is the difference between Slán leat, Goodbye, Au revoir and Auf wiedersehen?

What would your answer be? Perhaps ‘Roger, don’t be ridiculous and don’t be wasting my time as you know well they’re all saying the same thing’.

Exactly, as they say – ‘Don’t sweat the small stuff!’

The same thing just a different language – well I’m suggesting that ‘Spirit’ and ‘Energy’ are exactly the same thing just the words change when used appropriately in a different context.

In the world of science they talk about energy. The greatest scientists in the world claim that energy ‘cannot be created nor destroyed’, yes, it can be transformed from one matter to another but basically the energy remains the same.

From an ecclesiastical point of view we are told by the greatest theologians in the world that the true Word from God is ‘I give you the message of eternal life’, so when we look at it through the eyes of ‘spirit’ we have eternal life. At Catholic mass we say on three occasion ‘Peace be with you and with your spirit’ to our fellow congregation.

So in order not to ‘sweat the small stuff’ I’m saying that ‘cannot be created nor destroyed’ is exactly the same meaning as ‘Eternal life’ and that ‘Spirit’ is exactly the same as ‘Energy’.

Exactly the same only a different language used in a different context.

Science talks about the ‘Power’ of energy (note if it is manmade it can run out – otherwise why do we have power cuts!), Church talks about the eternal Power of God – in other words it is limitless and indefinable.

Because it is indefinable, Man’s understanding thinking mind finds this impossible to fathom as it cannot ‘understand’ the concept of limitless.

You can well see how we could end up going around in circles here.

The only way out of this is again back to ‘Acceptance’ because when we accept that we ‘don’t understand’ a very definite type of peace arises within us.

We connect with our own ‘inner power’ which because it is connected directly with the Higher Power (i.e. God if you choose to use that name or Yahweh or whatever you are comfortable with.)

Note; If you are not comfortable with any of the above you could always appreciate ‘The Power of Now’.

Eckhart Tolle (A best-selling author and life-guru) likes the use the word ‘Now’ as no human being can hold sway over the ‘present moment’ and the human brain cannot conceptionalise (understand) it!

Incidentally – again not to sweat the small stuff the word – ‘Yahweh’ when translated means ‘I am who I am’ which is exactly the same thing as ‘Now’.

We can never understand the concept of God in exactly the same way as the human mind can never understand the concept of ‘Now’.

However we can connect with the Power of Now in the exact same way as we can connect with the ‘Power of God’ for example by meditating on ‘The Breath’ which allows us to connect with our inner Eternal limitless power.

As human beings we will never understand this – but please remember it is more important ‘That it works’ not ‘How it works’.

This is the basic message that was given to us in The Bible when Jesus refers to the story of ‘Doubting Thomas’ when He said ‘Blessed are those who believe, yet do not See (understand).

Blessed are those who connect with the Power of God yet do not try to understand it. True faith is believing without understanding!

I am going to leave you with a beautiful Hindu blessing:

Namaste The Divine (Power) in me bows to Divine in you

Peace be with you and with your Spirit!  (Note as everyone is spirit/energy everyone is equal!)

Next week I am going to write about Church v Science
