Roger Harty: Ten Mighty Words

Posted by

.

I WAS in the restroom (fancy name for toilet!) of a local hotel recently when someone asked me if I was enjoying my evening.

I replied that I was having a ‘mighty’ night and he immediately retorted that I must be from Galway seen that I used the word ‘mighty’ as that seems to be a huge part of the linguistic culture in that neck of the woods.

In any case I love the word ‘mighty’ as it seems to ingenerate some sort of power. For instance it is used in the expression ‘God Almighty’.

Yet again this is best approached by asking a good question. Close your eyes and answer the following question.

‘Can you give me a sentence with 10 two letter words that will motivate you?’

Usually the answer that is given is……….. “I can’t” or “not possible” or some sort of gobbledygook like “go, go , go ————!”) which is not really a sentence.

Ok hold up your hand in the air and display 10 fingers (I’m including thumbs!) and drop a finger when you read each word.

If It Is To Be…

It Is Up To Me.

This power-inspiring sentence and mighty 10 words that I am talking about and is especially apt at his time of the year when many of us are making New Year’s Resolutions.

Ultimately if we are determined to do any particular project in life and we want it to work then we must take control of the reins ourselves and make it happen,

One word that would sum that whole sentence up in a nutshell is the word ‘Ownership’.

When we take ‘Ownership’ of our lives all sorts of wonderful things can happen.

Even our mistakes that we make, rather than blame (which by the way is a waste of time!), if we own the mistakes and learn from them, then that of itself can be of huge benefit.

The ‘Gurus’ of life will tell you that we can learn far more from perceived failure than we ever can learn from success.

How often do we see this played out in sport when you see a team lose a final, and the pain of that loss will drive them on to much more exalted heights.

Thus the term ‘You have to lose one to win one’.

Ownership of any project is of utmost importance as ultimately it puts us in control.

Once ownership is in place the next part is to plan and to deliver.

Everything begins with Ownership – then as they say — ‘It’s Game On’.

• Next week I am going to write about — Control  =  Peace
