Roger Harty: Yahweh

ABOUT 10 years ago I was first introduced to a book called ‘The Power of Now’ by Eckhart Tolle – it is a testament to this book that it has sold over 30 million copies worldwide.

At first I couldn’t make  head nor tail of it and I put it away for over a year.

The breakthrough for me was when I came across the Audio version of the book by accident (I didn’t know it even existed!) and I listened to it intently and consistently. Soon I came to the realisation that it was working – I didn’t know how it worked but believe me it worked.

You see when we focus on the Now we come to realise that all there ever truly is – is Now. The past and the future are fallacies and all that matters happens in the Now.

Another great thing about the Now is that it engenders no conflict. Your Now is exactly the same as my Now so there is nothing really to argue about (freedom from conflict – that’s nice isn’t it!)

After a while of practice I began to realise the Power that Eckhart Tolle was talking about and this became a great source of comfort to me.

I was at my work one day when I got a powerful realisation that perhaps ‘The Now’ that Eckhart Tolle was talking about and The ‘I AM’ that Jesus was talking about were one and the same thing.

This is what Jesus meant when He said – I AM (is) the way, and the truth and the life.

This can easily be substituted by – The Now (is) the way, the truth and the life.

Jesus was very specific – Note; He didn’t say ‘I Was’ is the way or ‘I Will Be’ is the way, He said ‘I Am’ is the way.

To add further to the revelation the ancient Hebrew name for God is Yahweh meaning…I Am that I Am.

Living in ‘The Now’/‘I Am’ space is the essential message of God that He even embedded it in His own Hebrew name – Yahweh – I Am that I Am.

All we ever have and need to connect with our inner Power is available in the Now. This is what Jesus meant when He said “Be Still and know that I Am God” – “Be Still and connect with the I Am” – Be Still and connect with The Now”.

Jesus was teaching us and showing us the way to connect with our own Inner Divine Power. Not only did He teach us but He showed us by example by the way He lived his own life and by how He offered his death up for our salvation.

He told us that we were all (yes all of mankind) made in His own image so that we all have the ability to connect with His inner Divine Power when we practice stillness and we search within.

When he was asked ‘If He was King of The Jews’ His answer was very simple; “Whom do you say I Am?”

Just like ‘calm breathing’, living in ‘The Now’ will always bring inner peace to our lives. This was always true in the past it is true in the present and it will always be true in the future.

This advice has been given to us not only by Jesus but by The Buddha , Eckhart Tolle, Gandhi, Jon Kabat Zinn and many other Gurus.

The thing about advice is that often we are given it but how often if ever do we apply it? You can bring a horse to water but you can’t make him drink it!!

  2. Very good,Roderick,
living in the now is a great aspiration,
As you told me often, focus on the breath.
