FRIDAY saw big crowds in the town centre as the festival fun kicked off in earnest.

The stalls were set up in the town centre — this year facing on to the shops on the Mall — and the sweet aromas of various foods filled the air.

The AIB stand proved very popular thanks to the presence of Kerry GAA legend Colm Cooper who chatted with passers-by and posed for photographs.

A nice feature on The Mall this year is a seating area for diners who were treated to live music at lunchtime.

The Town Park was buzzing with Family Town kicking off and another Kerry legend, Aidan O’Mahony, made sure people were kept on their toes with a special fitness class. The Rose escorts and Rosebuds especially enjoyed the fun.

Meanwhile, host of the Rose of Tralee Selection nights, Dáithí Ó Sé, was up in Baile Mhuire Day Care Centre where he chatted to the clients.

With the fun continuing into the night with music on Denny Street, The Square and elsewhere, it’s a great start to the Festival. Scroll down for photos…
