IF she was tired after the night before, Jennifer Byrne wasn’t showing it when she turned up in the Town Park for the traditional photoshoot in the Rose Garden.

The tall (5ft 11″) 23-year-old junior doctor from Offaly patiently posed for the cameras and signed autographs for young well wishers for close to an hour, all the time in the good humour you would expect from someone who had been announced as this year’s winner.

She also spoke about how the people of Tralee had been so good to her and her fellow Roses since they arrived last Tuesday.

“The people of Tralee have been unbelievably welcoming. We were completely blown away by the support. The parade was fantastic, it was the best experience of my life…well, last night topped it all!” said Jennifer.

“I’m delighted to be here and I’m delighted to represent them. Whatever I can do for the Rose of Tralee, I’ll do my very best,” she added.

She described what makes the festival so special.

“I don’t think there’s anything like the Rose of Tralee. It’s a unique festival that brings people together from all over the world. So many of the girls [Roses] have had families come together this week, so it’s all about bringing people together and celebrating Irish culture. Everybody seems to be having an absolutely fantastic time,” she said.

And then she was off for a day of engagements around the town before making an appearance at the Killarney Races on Wednesday evening. She’ll have a busy year ahead. Scroll down for photos…
