THE Rose of Tralee Festival will still take place this year, but it’s a possibility that it may need to be put back to September.

That’s the view CEO of the Rose of Tralee International Festival, Anthony O’Gara, who was asked about the event on Radio Kerry’s ‘Talkabout’ programme this afternoon.

He told host Deirdre Walsh that the view at the moment is that the festival will go ahead, but they may have to be flexible with their calendar.

At the moment, the festival is scheduled to take place from August 21-25. But, due to the Coronavirus crisis, all centres around the world have been asked to stand down on events for the moment.

They are hoping that local selections might take place over June and July, depending on the Coronavirus situation, as health and safety is their priority.

At the moment there are only two Roses picked for this year’s Festival as most of the selections take place in April and May and these will have to be put back. This could eventually result in the festival being put back to September, but nothing is decided yet as many factors have to be considered.

Mr O’Gara said the Festival’s income stream is going to be decimated in many respects, but they are creative team and at the moment they are confident that the festival will go ahead.
