A TRALEE man has died and five others have been injured at a building on Ashe Street this morning.

The men were doing construction work on the building when part of the chimney collapsed at around 8am this morning. It’s believed 68-year-old Tom Ross, a building contractor, was on the ground floor of the building when it happened.

Emergency services quickly attended the scene and removed the injured men to University Hospital Kerry. Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening. Ashe Street has now reopened to traffic and traffic calming measures are in place.

Speaking on Radio Kerry this morning, Mayor of Tralee, Terry O’Brien said there was shock and sadness in town at the news. He said Tom Ross and his family are well-known and respected in Tralee and beyond.
