It’s the last weekend in January and there’s a surprising amount to do over the next three days…

Friday

1. Play time at Siamsa…

STUDENTS from Mercy Mounthawk are blowing audiences away with performances in their latest production at Siamsa Tire.

‘Big Maggie’ by John B Keane is directed by Tony Behan and it’s the 17th time the school has staged a play. It’s well worth seeing on Friday and Saturday night at 8pm nightly. Click here for ticket info or call Siamsa on 066-7123055.

2. Have a laugh…

THE Blasket Comedy Club returns on Friday night with the first of three gigs taking place over the coming month in the bar.

First up is the acclaimed Chris Kent from Cork with his new show, ‘Looking Up’. Doors open at 8pm. Tickets are just €12 and are available behind the bar at The Blasket, at The Tech Co. on Dominick Street or by clicking here

3. Relive the 80s discos…

TONIGHT’S the night when The Rose Hotel turns the Lee Suite into Spirals/Horans for one night only with the Back to the 80’s disco in aid of Kerry Cork Health Link Bus.

Dig out those shoulder pads and leg warmers and get set to hit the dancefloor with DJ Niall “Botty” O’Callaghan spinning the classics from 10pm until late with a curry supper served around 11.30pm to guests to keep the nostalgia going.

80’s fashions are encouraged to be worn — but not required — and there will be a prize for best dressed.  Tickets are €20 and are available from reception@therosehotel.com or call The Rose Hotel at 066 7199100 or for more information.

Saturday

4. Ballymac boogies…

The time is nearly here for the Ballymac GAA’s ‘Strictly Love Dancing’ as the 10 couples will take to the floor in Ballygarry House Hotel on Saturday night at 8pm.

It’s the last Strictly the club is putting on so they are promising the best yet. There’s still a few tickets at €20 available at The Half Way Bar, An Teach Beag, O’Riadas Bar, O’Mahony’s Book shop and Horans Fruit & Veg Boherbee, Tralee.

5. Starry, starry night…

A star-studded night of entertainment awaits visitors to the Ballyroe Heights Hotel for ‘Stars In Their Eyes’.

Taking the format of the well-known ITV show, 10 acts from all over north Kerry will take on the persona of famous music stars for the fundraising event for Kerry Camogie.

MC for the night is Radio Kerry’s Brendan Fuller while the judges are John Brassil TD, well-known sports journalist Murt Murphy, Caroline McEnery of the HR Suite and Cllr Toireasa Ferris.

Tickets can be bought from the acts or from Sarah on 087 6475257 and Fiona on 086 3306050. The show begins at 8pm.

Sunday

6. Kerins run…

Kerins O’Rahillys’ fifth annual 10km/5km run and walk will commence at 11am on Sunday, at 11am.

The run/walk was launched on Saturday last and honours Francis Quill, who’s involvement with Kerins O’Rahillys juveniles spanned a 36-year period to 2012.

Registration is €20 and people can register online by clicking here on Saturday, January 26 between 2pm and 8pm in the clubhouse or on the morning of the race between 8am and 10.30am.

7. And so it begins…

It’s not in Tralee, but 20 miles over the road sees the beginning of a new season for the Kerry senior footballers.

Tyrone are the visitors to Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney, for the Allianz National League game and there’s set to be a big crowd for the opening match.

Be sure to get your tickets before Sunday at Supervalu or Centra or online and avail of the €15 price, rather than €20 on the day.
