Seven Things To Do In Tralee On Culture Night

Culture Night is here and events take place this evening at venues all over the county. There’s a bit going on in Tralee as you can see below…

1. Youth has its fling…

The programme in Tralee opens with a youth choral performance at The Ashe Hotel at 5.00pm.

Lisa Curran has been working with a choir of young people who will perform for Culture Night following a week long singing camp.

The Ashe Hotel graciously supported the choir with a space to perform for Culture Night.

2. Art in Roundy’s…

Across the road At Roundy’s Bar an art installation by Rebecca Lyons titled ‘Metamorphosis’ will feature butterflies that are representative of change and the human spirit.

3. Children’s painting…

A Children’s Process Painting Workshop by Me and The Moon will take place at Collis Sandes House between 5.00 and 7.00pm.

4. Afro Dabke in Baile Mhuire…

Ceilí AFRO DABKE will be presented by Catherine Young Dance & the Welcoming Project who have filled Siamsa Tire on two previous Culture Night presentations.

This year Catherine has been working with many new communities in Kerry and has organised an evening of world music, song and dance performance at Baile Mhuire from 6.00pm to 8.00pm.

The evening will include an excerpt from ‘It Takes A Village’ followed by a world music ceilí, where the audience will get to join in. Seats are allocated on a first come first served basis and attendees are advised to arrive early.

5. Music and more in Siamsa…

Culture Night at Siamsa Tire runs from 5.30pm to 9.30pm and includes the premiere of Ceol sa Chroí, a specially commissioned piece by Neil Martin, joining the forces of National Folk Theatre musicians, classical musicians and the NFT Choir.

Artist-in-Residence, Conor O’Grady will work with visitors to the gallery on an interactive project as well as showing visitors around his studio.

A third event at Siamsa ‘casting Light on Ireland’s Bronze Age’ will include artists Holger Lonze and Karen Hendy who will bring the story behind Ireland’s archaeological artefacts alive, casting replicas of small sculptures inspired by the archaeology of Kerry.

6. Explore the museum…

A full programme of events is scheduled for Kerry County Museum including free admission to all exhibitions as well as a behind the Scenes Tour and medieval family fun.

Sliabh Mish Comhaltas will play from 6.30 to 8.30pm and the Ciar Quilters will be on display.

7. And the rest…

A launch of Kerry’s new Music Instrument Bank takes place at Culloty’s Music Shop on the Mall at 6.00pm and Behind The Scenes at Kerry Library in Moyderwell will include a guided tour of the local history archive and reserve collections.

A Flash Dash & Poetry Slam organised by the Thursday Night Writers in Tralee will take place from 7.00-9.00pm and will include award winning Kerry poet, Eileen Sheehan.

Craobh Thrá Trá Lí Comhaltas group will be in Manor West Shopping Centre from 7.00pm and Tralee Art Group will present ‘A Moment in Tralee’, a collage style painting workshop at Baile Mhuire Day Care Centre in Balloonagh from 7.00 to 9.00pm.
