A YOUNG girl from Ballyrickard came home this afternoon to find the Share A Dream Foundation had made her dream of a bedroom makeover come true.

Ten-year-old Sarah Carty from The Orchard, was diagnosed with Leukaemia in August 2010 and went through two years of intense treatment. In 2014 she relapsed and underwent more treatment at St John’s Ward in Crumlin and St Anne’s Ward in the Mercy Hospital, Cork.

Her treatment is finished now and time will tell how she gets on in the future, but on Wednesday she was full of joy and energy when she entered her new bedroom to see a Unicorn wall-covering over her bed, cuddly toys, a rainbow rug and much more.

Sarah, a pupil in Presentation Primary School, had contacted the Share A Dream Foundation to see if they could make her dream come true of a bedroom makeover.

She wrote: “My dream is to ride a unicorn over a rainbow but I know that’s a bit hard, so instead I would like you to do my bedroom up.”

The Foundation contacted designer Kate Campbell, a team of carpenters and painters and they all got to work while Sarah was at school on Wednesday.

Dad, Ed, collected her and said there might be surprise at home.

“I said I might treat her to a bit of chocolate and a drink on such a warm day and she was delighted. When we pulled into the estate though and she saw all the cars then she suspected something,” said Ed.

“I was like ‘Dad, what have you done’,” said Sarah. As for the makeover, “I thought it was a different room!” she said, adding the unicorn over the bed was her favourite feature.

He mom, Anne, was very thankful to Share A Foundation and all who helped for their efforts.

“She always loved her bedroom and when she was sick she spent such a large amount of time there. It was always a dream to do her bedroom up and today her dream has come true.”

Project Manager for Share A Dream, Ciara Brolly, thanked all who helped including Kate Campbell and Grace O’Donnell, Noyeks Tralee, Robert Harris Carpentry, Danny Lynch Painting and Decorating, EF Signs Unicorn Wall Mural, McElligott’s Furniture Castleisland, Corcoran’s Furniture Manor, staff at Next, Smyths Toys, Higgins Recycling and Pat McDonnell’s Paint.
