Shock And Sadness At Passing Of Liam Kearns

THERE has been widespread shock and sadness at the news tonight of the passing of Tralee man and Offaly GAA football manager, Liam Kearns.

The Austin Stacks man passed earlier today aged 61. Offaly GAA said it was “devastated to learn of the sudden passing this evening of our senior football manager, Liam Kearns.”

“In his short period of time as manager of the senior footballers, Liam made a hugely positive impact and he was extremely well respected by everyone associated with Offaly GAA. Offaly GAA extend deepest sympathies to his wife Angela and daughters Rachel & Laura. May he rest in peace.”

A retired Garda sergeant, he has previously managed Limerick, Tipperary and Laois. He led Limerick to Munster finals in 2003 and ‘04. He managed Laois to the 2007 Leinster final. He brought Tipperary to the All-Ireland SFC semi-final in 2016, the first for the county since 1935.

He played 10 times for the Kerry in county league campaigns from 1984 to ‘86. He won an All-Ireland minor medal for Kerry in 1980 and won a Kerry Senior Football Championship medal with Austin Stacks in 1986.
