FOLLOWING its outstanding success at the Grand Opera House, Belfast, ‘The Miami Showband Musicial’ comes to the INEC Killarney on August 28.

Marie Jones (Stones In His Pockets) and Martin Lynch (Dancing Shoes – The George Best Story) have another huge hit on their hands with the show.

Telling the story of best friends and the band’s songwriters, Fran O’Toole and Des Lee, The Miami Showband Story is a roller-coaster ride of emotions as the musical takes us from the heady days of the 1960’s when the band was known as ‘The Irish Beatles’, to the powerful tragedy of 1975 that resulted in 3 members of the band losing their lives at a bogus road checkpoint.

Full house notices went up for 10 nights in Belfast as audiences sang, danced and cheered the show to the rafters.

Playwright Lynch said, “I’ve had some great opening night reactions to my plays but I have never witnessed what I saw in Belfast. Audiences went wild. The encore of Miami songs at the end of the show brought the audience to their feet in what can only be described as a crowd eruption.”

The 9-strong cast includes an amazing live showband made up of some of the best young musicians in Ireland, supported by 3 actor singers, adding up to what punters are saying, is ‘a great night out’.

Playwright Jones added, “The show doesn’t shy away from the tragedy. We have worked hard at dealing with the tragic event in a very sensitive and poignant way. Audiences have been very moved by this scene, indeed loads of people are telling us they shed tears.”

Galway actor, Enda Kilroy commented; “We can’t wait to take the show around the country and bring to audiences what is a truly remarkable story, both joyful and shocking, but told quite brilliantly by two of our finest playwrights.”

Former Miami band member and survivor from the massacre, Des Lee, who has been closely involved in the rehearsals, added; “It’s just fantastic. Nine live actor/musicians and singers make for a brilliant showband sound. And of course, the storyline is an incredibly emotional journey for me to watch. Audiences are in for a treat.” Tickets from €40.20 available from www.inec.ie or www.ticketmaster.ie
