Dancers in Anam

SIAMSA Tire will host previews of Anam, a dance piece that will feature two Kerry natives, as part of its Tocht Festival of Dance on April 22 and April 23 before its official launch at the Dublin Dance Festival at the end of May.

Co-commissioned by Dublin Dance Festival and Siamsa Tíre’s National Folk Theatre of Ireland, Anam (meaning ‘soul’) will feature Matthew Olwell (US), Jonathan Kelliher (Artistic Director of the National Folk Theatre) from North Kerry, Nathan Pilatzke (Canada) and another Kerry native, John Fitzgerald.

Between them, these four dancers will represent Appalachian Flat Foot dancing, the North Kerry Munnix style, Ottawa Valley dancing and Modern Irish.

The four dancers, along with Co-Director, Sue-Ellen Chester-MacCarthy, spent time together last autumn working on the piece and will come together for a fortnight in Siamsa Tíre from April 11. Working with musicians, led by acclaimed Sean Nós singer, Fergal O’Murchú, the group will put the finishing touches to the new production.

Anam is directed by Jonathan Kelliher and Sue-Ellen Chester-MacCarthy, with music being arranged and composed by Fergal O’Murchú and lighting design is by John Hurley.

Tickets for the production’s run in Siamsa Tíre are available at the Siamsa Tíre Box Office on 066) 7123055 or online at www.siamsatire.com.
