Siamsa Tíre Teams Up With Theatre Companies For World Premieres

SIAMSA Tíre has announced a trio of new Irish drama which will be available online as part of its new programme of events.

Working in partnership with theatre companies and other theatres across Ireland, Siamsa Tíre will present three world premieres including The Visiting Hour from the Gate Theatre, Druid’s Boland: Journey of a Poet and Mustard from Fishamble: The New Play Company.

Frank McGuinness’ new play The Visiting Hour stars Stephen Rea and Judith Roddy. Frank McGuinness wrote the play during lockdown for the two renowned Irish actors Stephen Rea and Judith Roddy.

The play is about an Irish father (Stephen Rea) and daughter (Judith Roddy) at visiting hour in a nursing home during the pandemic, will be performed and recorded in the Gate auditorium, and streamed to audiences on April 22nd, 23rd and 24th at 7.30pm.

Druid At Home presents a new theatrical production Boland: Journey of a Poet. It explores the mind and imagination of one of Ireland’s great poets with words by Eavan Boland, edited by Colm Tóibín and directed by Garry Hynes.

Performed by Siobhán Cullen and live streamed from The Mick Lally Theatre in Galway, this world premiere production examines Boland’s relationships with family, poetry, memory, womanhood and national identity.

There will be four live stream performances of Boland: Journey of a Poet from The Mick Lally Theatre in Galway between Thursday 22 and Saturday 24 April followed by an option to view on demand between Tuesday 27 April and Sunday 2 May.

Fishamble: The New Play Company returns to Siamsa Tíre with Eva O’Connor’s dramatic brilliance in this new one-woman show Mustard.

This world premiere is about heartbreak, madness and how condiments are the ultimate coping mechanism, this production is written and performed by award-winning playwright & performer Eva O’Connor and directed by Hildegard Ryan.

The artists will talk about their creative process and artworks showcased in this Virtual Exhibition Ciorcal Iomláin which is still available online until 30th April.

This exhibition represents a feast of creativity with a collection of fine art, photography, ceramics, contemporary installation, woolcraft, felting and weaving, all created over the last number of years by ‘INHOUSE’ artists.

The artworks encompass many different themes from environmental issues, mythology, folklore and heritage.
