Six Things To Do Around Tralee This Weekend

With less than four weeks to Christmas, it’s getting busier around town and — besides the shopping and the partying — there’s a lot to get up to…

Friday

1. Bazaar time…

You could pick up some great prizes in KDYS Denny Street at the St. John’s Parish annual Bazaar.

Taking place from this Friday to Sunday, there will be plenty on offer – raffles and auctions galore – everything from 2019 All-Ireland Football tickets, hotel vouchers, meal vouchers, heating oil vouchers and household furnishings and, not least, our magnificent Christmas hamper raffles.

It all starts on Friday night at 7.30pm  and continues at 7.30pm on Saturday and 2pm on Sunday.

2. An evening of sporting greats…

GAA greats Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh and Aiden O’Mahony; horse racing guru Ted Walsh and Ireland’s women’s rugby captain Ciara Griffin are among the sporting personalities who will line out in support of Recovery Haven Kerry tonight.

The cancer support charity has teamed up with well-known journalist and sports writer, Billy Keane from Listowel to host ‘An Evening of Sporting Greats’ at Tralee’s Ballyroe Heights Hotel.

Billy will MC a panel of well-known sports personalities, chatting to them about their life and career highs and lows, with some audience interaction also planned by way of a Q&A session from the floor. Tickets, priced at €20 available from Recovery Haven or at the door on the night.

3. Go racing…

Na Gaeil GAA club hoping supporters, players, parents and anyone looking for a fun night out to head to the clubhouse in Killeen this evening around 9pm for the annual race night.

There’ll be a full card of racing, tote facilities and a Best Dressed Lady/Gents prize up for grabs.

Saturday

4. Book signing…

With the Christmas shopping season in full swing, Kerry Independent TD Michael Healy-Rae will be hoping to sell some of his books as gifts this Saturday.

He will be in O’Mahony’s Bookshop on Castle Street from 12 noon to sign copies of ‘Time To Talk — Stories From The Heart Of Ireland’ which went on sale last month.

Sunday

5. Blue Sunday?…

Ok, this isn’t happening in Tralee, but Kerins O’Rahillys will enter the lion’s den when they face high-flying Dr Crokes in the County League Division 1 final at Lewis Road in Killarney at 2pm.

The Crokes have just won the Munster Club title last Sunday so the Strand Road faithful will be hoping there might be a bit of a fatigue factor after their hectic schedule over the past couple of months.

Sadly, with the enormous talent they have in reserve, it’ll still be a big ask for the Tralee men to bring home the silverware…but not insurmountable. It should be a great encounter.

6. Light To Remember…

University Hospital Kerry and Kerry Hospice Foundation are together hosting a Light to Remember Memorial Christmas Tree Ceremony on the grounds of the hospital.

The ceremony will commence at 5pm with light refreshments and entertainment provided. The official turning on of the lights will be at 5.30pm. There is an open invitation to anyone who would like to participate in this special Christmas remembrance ceremony.

It offers an unique opportunity to sponsor a dedicated light on the Light to Remember Christmas Tree honouring someone special in your life living and those no longer with us.

Lights can be sponsored from now until Christmas. To sponsor a light simply complete the online form using the following link: https://pmsvault.com/Donation/Kerry1118/MemorialTree
