Six Things To Do In Tralee This Weekend

It’s a big weekend for sport and activity so let’s hope the weather is kind…

1. Final push with Poshey…

THE annual ’31 Day January Challenge for Positive Mental Health’ finishes tonight and all are invited to come together for the final 5k.

Over €13,000 has already been raised for Down Syndrome Kerry, Action For Amber, Chloe’s Journey and Bumbleance.

The final night will see a 5k walk at The Rose Hotel with participants gathering outside the hotel at 7pm sharp. There will be medals given out and a cheque presentations to the charities at 8pm that night. All are invited.

2. Music in Benners…

‘Bands For Bubbles’ is being held in Benners Hotel in aid of Siobhain Maher Sequeval who suffered a major stroke and aneurysm in December and is currently in a hospital in Nice.

Local rock bands Midnite Cafe, Zedz Dead, Renovator and Brightside as well as Atlantic DJs Kerry Alan Farmer, take to the stage in Benners.

Tickets at €15 (or €20 at the door on the night) are available from An Cearnóg in the Square, That’s Perfect, Benners Hotel and Bailys Corner. Doors open at 9pm.

3. Park run celebration…

THE good folks at Parkrun Tralee are hosting a fifth birthday party and are inviting all park runners down to mark to milestone.

There’ll be a few fun awards and a party in the Brandon Hotel afterwards with a slideshow from the year gone by. They would like people to bring along some home baking or other goodies if possible and drop them into the Brandon between 8.30am-9am.

All new park runners are also welcome and all you have to do is register here https://www.parkrun.ie/register/ for free and print out your barcode.

4. Chinese New Year in town…

There’s loads going on for the Chinese New Year festival in town.

‘Taste Of Asia’ in association with Taste Kerry is a food and flavours market with tasters, demonstrations and workshops in Tralee Town Square by your favourite Chefs from local Chinese & Asian Restaurants from 12 noon to 4pm.

There’s a ‘Lion and Dragon Ritual’ which is An amazing spectacle with 19 performers with two Lions & a Dragon including live musicians will be taking place in the Square on Saturday February 1st at 2pm and 5pm.

5. A big night in Tralee…

The town will be packed for the Allianz Football League Division 2 Round 2 match at Austin Stack Park between Kerry and Galway at 7pm.

It’s not on the telly so expect a big crowd in the stadium and in the pubs and restaurants afterwards. Why not make a night of it?

Sunday

6. Support the hurlers…

Kerry take on the Faithful county in the Allianz Hurling League Division 2 Round 2 game in Austin Stack Park at 2pm.

After a good start against Mayo last week, Kerry will be hoping to beat the Offaly men in what should be an exciting encounter. Your support would be appreciated.
