Six Things To Do In Tralee And Beyond This Weekend

It’s the weekend with sport, cocktails, a quiz and an 80s/90s night among the things on the agenda in town and beyond….

Friday

1. Chill out with a glass in hand…

‘Get fresh for the weekend’ warbled Mel & Kim on their 1987 hit ‘Showing Out’ and there’s no better place for ladies to start than with a few refreshments.

Over in The Ashe Hotel they have introduced ‘Wine Down At Alfie’s’ from 5pm. There’s cocktails, Antipasti platter with five different meats, three cheeses, roast vegetables, olives, tapenades and artisan breads, hot platters and, of course, the glass of vino.

It’s a taster of what they have planned for the following weekend (see advert below).

2. Style, cocktails, canapés and more…

There’s just a few tickets left for the Connect Kerry ‘Cocktails and Canapés’ night at Benner’s Hotel.

Kicking off at 7pm, Geraldine Flynn is the host for a night of fun, food, wines, fashion and lots of tips for your skin, hair and lots more from the experts in The Courtyard.

A raffle will also be held on the night in aid of MS Tralee/West Kerry branch. For tickets at €35, call Margaret Brick on  086-2408237.

3. Enjoy some nightlife…

There’s some great live music to be enjoyed in pubs around town, including Millsider in Kirby’s Brogue Inn. Alternatively, head to Fabrik where they have 80s/90s and 00s anthems.

4. Relive your nightclub heyday at ‘Blast From The Past’…

Remember when they played Depeche Mode, Duran Duran and Kylie when you went to the ‘dishco’?

Well Fabrik are hosting a big fundraising ‘Blast From The Past’ night organised by staff at the Bon Secours hospital in aid of their Sudan Appeal.

It will take place upstairs in Fabrik and for the €10 admission you can expect a fantastic night, recalling the heady days of Spirals and Horan’s. Doors open from 9.30pm so get there early!  Wonder if there’s a slow set?

Anyway, here’s a reminder of what nightclubs were like 25 years ago in this clip from a club in Ballina in 1992…

5. Quiz night…

Over in Tralee Sailing Club in Fenit, you can test your general knowledge with a charity table quiz.

It’s organised by Tralee Triathlon Club and funds raised will go towards the RNLI and to help club members get to the World Triathlon Championships in September in Rotterdam.

Tables of four €40. It starts at 8.30pm.

Now at Garvey’s Supervalu Tralee…

Sunday

6. Pride in the parish…

The Garvey’s Supervalu Kerry SHC is in full swing now and there’s three games on at the weekend in Austin Stack Park.

Saturday sees the Round 1 replay between Causeway and St Brendan’s (7pm), then on Sunday afternoon there’s a double header with Abbeydorney v Ballyheigue (1.45pm) in Round 2B (Losers Group), while that’s followed by the Round 2A (Winners Group) clash between Lixnaw  and Ballyduff at 3.30pm. Should be great sporting entertainment.
