A HUGE soccer tournament is to take place at the end of August to raise funds for BUMBLEance.

St Brendan’s Park FC will host the event for U11/12 teams from all over the county and in Cork, Clare and Limerick, at their pitches in Cahermoneen on Saturday, August 31.

“We wanted to run it for a local children’s charity and it’s relative to the age group here,” said Mike McCannon of Park FC, speaking at the launch on Saturday morning at Christy Leahy Park.

“The club has grown dramatically over the years and we now have around 200 kids here in the academy, including many girls. We want to promote both the charity and our club and we’re very excited about hosting the event,” he added.

“We expect to have in excess of over 300 kids playing, with 16 teams in each age category donating €50 per team. There’s also a €2 admission charge for people coming in to watch the games,” said Mike.

BUMBLEance provides help and support to sick children and their families as they travel to and from home to hospital, national treatment centres, and respite and hospice care facilities nationwide.
