IRELAND begin their Euro 2016 journey  tomorrow and soccer fans are hoping they can do themselves justice in their three group matches.

While many are deciding where to watch their opening game on Monday, there’s a great atmosphere assured for their second match of the Euros in the The Square next weekend.

Ireland play Belgium on Saturday, June  18 at 2pm and it will be shown live on a big screen in the Square to maximise the Euro buzz that is beginning to sweep the nation.

Terry O’Connell of An Chearnog and Stonehouse Restaurant is thrilled that The Square is hosting the big screen.

“It’s the perfect spot for something like this,” said Terry. “You’d like to see the Square used more often, it is the centre of Tralee and a great spot for stuff like this.”

From 1pm on the Saturday, there’ll be live music to get a party atmosphere going for the match which kicks off at 2pm our time.

It’s all part of the Tralee 800 celebrations in a festival which takes place from June 17-19 in the town, also incorporating the annual Féile na mBláth.

On Friday week The Raglans and Delorentos will be playing free gigs in the Square also as part of Tralee 800.

Cllr Pa Daly is the driving force behind the big screen as he was four years ago when it was erected in the Square for an Ireland game during the Euro 2012 championships and proved a huge success. Organisers are hoping families come down to create a big match atmosphere.
