SOUTHDOC services in Kerry will be affected by strike action this evening and overnight.

Around 60 SIPTU members, who are drivers and administration staff with SouthDoc in Kerry and Cork, are taking part in a nationwide 24-hour strike by Section 39 workers over the reversal of pay cuts.

Between 6pm tonight and 8am on Saturday morning, there will be a staff member on duty at the centres in Tralee, Dingle, Cahersiveen, Kenmare and Killarney, but not in Listowel and Castleisland.

There will also be a reduced number of staff in the call centres so there may be delays in getting through, especially during the peak time of 6pm to 8pm. Also, the chance of house calls is slim because of reduced staff members.

People in the Listowel area will have to make appointments in Tralee, so it’s possible the Tralee centre in Killeen will be busier than usual overnight.

Southdoc wishes to assure patients that they will be dealt with and no patient will be left untreated. SouthDoc say they deeply regret any inconvenience that may be caused to patients.

The Cork Kerry Community Healthcare wing of HSE says every possible effort will be made to avoid or minimise any impact on patients.
