Skin gets its colour from a substance called melanin, which is made by skin cells.

When those cells are damaged or unhealthy, they can produce too much melanin. The melanin can clump, causing that area to appear darker.

Pigment spots such as age spots are caused by sun exposure. For this reason, they appear mainly on parts that are frequently exposed such as face, hands, neck, chest and arms.

Sun damage is responsible for 80% of the signs of premature skin ageing including age spots. Reducing pigmentation on your skin has the ability to make you look younger.

There are many things you can do in your skin care routine to reduce pigmentation and in CHRC we have many treatments and products to help with this issue.

The first treatment is IPL which is intense pulsed light, and it targets the pigmentation. It will take a few sessions, but the number of sessions will be discussed during your initial consultation.

This treatment is quick and done monthly. Medical peels are also a very effective treatment for pigmentation and have the added effect of giving skin a great glow and this treatment can be done monthly also.

Certain products with the right ingredients can do wonders for the reduction of darker pigment to give a more unified texture and colour to the skin.

Retinol increase the cell turnover, so the outer layers slough off more quickly and this in turn means any cells with melanin in them are also shed more quickly.

Additionally, Vitamin C blocks the enzyme responsible for melanin or pigment production and as Vitamin C is water soluble nutrient, it can be used in many forms including face serums.

Niacinamide is another great ingredient in skincare that works by inhibiting melanosome transfer from melanocytes. Results from the products take between 8-12 weeks to see a difference.

All our products in CHRC are of medical grade and our retinols can be increased over time for maximum results. We also stock a vast range of award winning SPF’S to prevent further damage for the Sun exposure.
