St. Brendan’s Basketball Club brought the curtain down on the 2015/2016 season with the Club AGM and Annual Awards night last Friday in Moyderwell.

Over 150 members, players and the club committee gathered to reflect on a very successful year for the club and to reward the Most Valuable Player and Most Improved Player at each underage grade and Senior Ladies level.

St. Brendan’s Basketball Club award winners with Club President Charles O’Sullivan, Chairman Pa Carey and coaches and Senior players Fergal O’Sullivan and Darren O’Sullivan.

The club also presented the Clubperson of the Year award. A number of local charities benefited from the club fundraising efforts throughout the season and one such organisation, Inspired, were represented by Yvonne O’Brien and other members on the night to collect their cheque from the club.

Speaking to the assembled audience Club Chairman Pa Carey reviewed the year by outlining the development and performance of each of the team in the clubs underage structure.

Among the highlights of the year he paid tribute to the Boys U12s who under coach Tony Griffin remained unbeaten throughout the season and captured both the League and Cup titles in the process.

He also congratulated the Boys U14s under coaches Fergal O’Sullivan and Darren O’Sullivan that were crowned KABB Cup champions.

At national level he congratulated the Boys U14s that reached the All Ireland Club Championship semi final and the Boys 16s that went one step further by reaching the final and finishing runners up.

He also paid tribute to St. Brendan’s players Michael O’Donnell and Cian O’Sullivan who were called up to the Ireland U20 squad.

He congratulated the Mens Senior team on their National Intermediate Cup success in Tallaght at the end of January and the MVP awarded to Kieran Donaghy on a record breaking performance in the final with his points scored, assists and rebounds all in double figures.

The Club Chairman finished his address by emphasising St. Brendan’s Basketball Club’s commitment to continue the development of current players at all levels and growth of the club through the registration of new talent.
