ST. BRENDAN’S BASKETBALL CLUB NOTES

RESULTS
Boys Under 14A

St Brendan’s 31 KCYMS 30

Brendan’s under 14s won a close game against Killorglan in Moyderwell on Sunday. Brendan’s trailed 10-7 at the end of the first quarter but strong defence and some 8 points in the second quarter from Graham Sheehy had them leading 19-14 at the half. Killorglin came out strong in the 3rd quarter and took the narrowest of leads in to the final quarter. Brendan’s refused to lie down and baskets from Sam McCarthy and Eddie Sheehy kept them in touch. With 19 seconds on the clock Brendan’s trailed by 1 when Graham Sheehy was fouled going to the basket. He made the two free throws and Brendan’s held out for their first win of the season. All players contributed and they will be hoping to build on this win as the season progresses.

St Brendans 35 Rathmore 26
Two very evenly matched teams went toe to toe in the first quarter that ended 6 points apiece. Thanks to some brilliant scoring by Niall Fitzmaurice with 7 points, Brendan’s pulled ahead to lead by 5 at half time. The third quarter was dominated by home team, allowing Rathmore to score just 2. There was an outstanding performance for Rathmore by Ian O’Connor who finished the game with over half of their scores.
It was nip and tuck in the fourth quarter but Brendan’s prevailed by nine in the end. This leaves St. Brendan’s unbeaten in four games this year. Again well done to parents and family for support and to the coaches Donald and John.
