St. Brendan’s 36

St. Bridget’s hosted St. Brendan’s in Currow last Wednesday night. This was a tight battle right from the throw in with the lead changing hands throughout.

Both teams started strong with Olaf Michalezuk and Brian O’Donnell dominating the boards at both ends of the court and gave off some good passes to David Scally and Shane Kelly for scores.

David Healy stood out for Bridget’s during this quarter and levelled the score at 10pts each at the end of the first quarter.

Brendan’s dominated the second quarter with Eoghan Bradshaw and Rory Costello working hard in defence and Olaf and Brian again doing well on rebounds we had a half time lead of 21pts to 16.

However St Bridget’s took control in the third quarter and it was during this period that the game was won with David Healy and Eamon O’Mahony doing most of the damage. Going into the last quarter Brendan’s were 5pts down, a great rebound and pass by Brian O’Donnell put Shane Kelly in for a layup in the first minute of the of the quarter to reduce the deficit to 3pts, however it was score for score after this and despite Jack Murphy’s best efforts and two from two from the free throw line by Shane Cotter in the dying moments of the game time ran out for Brendan’s. The game ended with the final score of 41-36.
