RESULTS
Leestrand Boys U12 Division 2

St. Brendan’s 44 Caherciveen 21
Having lost the plate final to Caherciveen by 3pts, St. Brendan’s were eager to try and reverse the result at home. Brendan’s got off to a bright start with Brian O’Donnell opening the scoring and 9pts by the outstanding Olaf Michalezuk put Brendan’s 11pts to 6 up at the end of the first quarter.

Great defence during this period by Shane Kelly, David Scally, Eoghan Bradshaw and Brayden Pierce curbed the threat of Caherciveen’s Brian Quinlan. Brendan’s continued to dominate the second quarter with Harry Wallace and Kieran Arrelano scoring well while Peter Doyle and Rory Clifford worked tirelessly in defence.

Liam Óg O’Connor was rebounding well at both ends. At the end of the first half we were 29pts to 9 up. The third quarter again saw great team work by Brendan’s, Kieran Arrelano leading the charge and a basket each from Shane Cotter and Eoghan Bradshaw stretched the lead to 39 – 14.

Tadhg O’Sullivan and Conor O’Shea tried hard for Caherciveen but overall Brendan’s were the stronger side and ran out worthy winners with a convincing 44pts to 21 victory when the final whistle blew.

THE JAMES HOBBERT MEMORIAL U17 TOURNAMENT

The Annual James Hobbert Memorial Tournament takes place this Saturday at Moyderwell and Presentation Gyms in Tralee. The tournament for U17s will feature clubs from around Kerry as well as visiting teams from Sligo, Cork and Galway. A great day of basketball action gets underway on Saturday morning at 9.00am at both venues with the final set to take place at 5.15pm.

GARVEY’S TRALEE WARRIORS

The Garvey’s Tralee Warriors finished out the regular home and away Superleague fixtures with a straight-forward 83-53 win over the Radisson Blu UL Eagles at the Tralee Sports Complex last Saturday.

Fergal O’Sullivan and Goran Pantovic joint top scored with 12 points each. The game marked the final Superleague game for one of the greats of the game in Ireland, Rick Leonard.

The former St. Brendan’s star finished off a stellar career in the game, and particularly in Tralee, where Rick first played with the Tralee Tigers back in 1993.

Last Saturday he showed all his experience and class in his final match by landing six points for the Warriors playing alongside his son Ryan in what was yet another special day of basketball in the Complex.

The Warriors are now set to face Maree of Oranmore in the quarter-final of the Champions Trophy this weekend. Victory will see the Warriors head to Letterkenny for the finals of the season ending event on the weekend of the 1st and 2nd of April.
