ST. BRENDAN’S BASKETBALL CLUB JUVENILE ACADEMY

St. Brendan’s Basketball Club has officially started back with their Juvenile Academy for boys and girls for the new season and is actively encouraging budding young basketball enthusiasts to join.

The club, which was founded 20 years ago to cater for boys in the Tralee area, has grown enormously since then. The club now caters for boys and girls in their Academy and boys in the Under-10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and under-20 age groups, as well as at Senior Men and Senior Women level.

Our Academy is an integral and important part of the continuing development of the club. The Academy times are as follows Tues 5-6pm and Sat 10am – 11am for the 5 to 9 year olds. Our Academy is held at Moyderwell Gym with our coaches Linda Raymond and Charles O’Sullivan and players Micheal O’Donnell and Arianne Finnegan. The cost of the Academy is just 3 euro per hour. Here are some of our boys and girls taking a quick break for a photo…

IN CONDOLENCE

The committee, players, coaches and members past and present were deeply saddened last week at the passing of Bruddy Burrows after a brave battle with illness.

Bruddy was a founding member of St. Brendan’s Basketball Club twenty-one years ago along with Charles and Marie O’Sullivan, Tania O’Sullivan and Noel McCoy. Widely recognised as one of the best basketball player of his time in Ireland, Bruddy was a great ambassador for the development of the game in Tralee. As a player he was rewarded with 22 international appearances for Ireland, captaining the side on one occasion.

A gifted footballer, he won two County Championships with John Mitchels and partnered his brother Seanie to win back-to-back All Ireland Minor Football Championships with Kerry in 1962 and 1963. He was also a great golfer and played off a handicap of 6. He was a true sporting hero in Tralee and beyond and one of life’s true gentlemen.

Everybody involved in the club wish to express sincerest sympathy to Bruddy’s family, Margaret, Paula, David, Alan and Myrthe, brother Seanie, sisters Marie and Helena and all his extended family and friends. May he rest in peace.
