St Brendan’s Park Signs Up To ‘See Something, Say Something’ Campaign

Launching the ‘See Something, Say Something’ campaign were St Brendan’s Park Residents Association Margaret O’Grady, Brendan Walsh, Tom O’Brien and Mary Weir, Garda Evan McNamara, Richard O’Halloran (Chairperson) and Brian Stephenson of Zinmobi and Tralee Chamber Alliance.

IT’S been a huge success so far and now one of the biggest estates in town has signed up to the ‘See Something, Say Something’ campaign.

Members of Tralee Chamber Alliance and an Garda Síochána met with St Brendan’s Park Residents Association Committee on Tuesday night.

The ‘See Something, Say Something’ campaign has been a huge success since it was introduced by the Chamber in partnership with An Garda Síochána in late July.

Gardaí are receiving around 30 texts a week from the public and respond within nine minutes of a person reporting a crime. It has already led to arrests and prosecutions.

“The Park is an old estate with many elderly residents and we all look out for each other,” said Chairperson of St Brendan’s Park Residents Committee, Richard O’Halloran. “As far as I know we’re the first estate to sign up to it. Everybody who knows about it is delighted to be part of it. Each house in the estate will receive a sticker poster with the text number,” he said.

Richard said other estates in town should engage with the gardai about launching it in their area. He also expressed the wish that the chairpersons of all the residents associations in town should come together to meet regularly to share ideas and collaborate on projects.

Members of the public who ‘see something’ that might need Garda intervention, are asked to ‘say something’ by texting TRALEE and the incident details to 50555. The free text message will be received by the sergeant on duty and it will be acted upon immediately by local Gardaí.
