Dingle Way Challenge 2014:

The clock is ticking down to the 2014 Dingle Way Challenge which is only days away! Registration online has continued to rise and the hard-working committee led by Derek O’Sullivan are putting the final touches to the event. We are asking all members of the community to support our main fundraiser for the year, the Dingle Way Challenge. This year the walk will go along the peninsula from Cloghane to Blennerville with stops in Spillane’s Bar, Maherees and The Old Schoolhouse in Camp. Participants are free to walk all the trek or any of the stages. Registration can be done online through our website and Facebook page and forms are also available with Kieran in O’Shea’s Gala, Blennerville. The fee is €35 and includes bus transport, breakfast,  lunch, burger and a drink on completion along with a medal. All participants will also receive a goodie bag for the trek with drinks, fruit and a map. It promises to be a great days fun on the mountains and along the beaches. We are asking all friends of St Pats to support the walk either by taking part or by sponsoring one of the participants and all money raised is being used to improve our club facilities. It will all begin at 5am in our clubrooms this Sunday morning so we are looking forward to seeing you then!

Family Section of Dingle Way Challenge:

Everyone who wishes to walk on the family section of the Dingle Way Challenge is asked to assemble at Curraheen onJune 1st at 2.30pm.  We are encouraging as many parents and juveniles to join in the fun and walk with friends and colleagues from the church to our pitch along the scenic mountain path.  At the pitch, refreshments will be provided in a carnival atmosphere.  You can register at O’Sheas Shop in advance of the event.

Juvenile Academy:

We had a smaller turnout last Sunday morning but every child who attended on the day put in a great training session. In the u6’s Sharon Enright and Justin O’Halloran showed great skill and determination and a huge welcome to Ruan Culloo who made his debut. The u8’s and u10’s trained together and we saw great passing and kicking skills from Josh Quilter, Killian Lynch, Shane Howarth, Adam Mulvihill and a big welcome to another new comer Samuel Barrero who participated extremely well in his training session. There will be no training on Sunday morning due to the Dingle Way Challenge.

Summer Football & Internal League:

Our academy will run on Wednesdays through the month of June commencing on June 4th.  This date will also see the start of our internal league.  All are welcome.

Under 12’s:

Our u12’s played at home last Friday evening against Kilgarvan. Kilgarvan were a physically stronger team but our boys never gave up from start to finish. We had injuries from Niall McCarthy, Matthew Quilter and Tomas O’Sullivan and this had a huge affect on our game. We are scheduled to play on Sunday evening. Details to follow. Our u12’s and u14’s are holding an internal blitz beginning next Wednesday evening from 6.30 to 7.30. Hope to see all our players attending.

 Juniors:

Our Junior team played their first game in the county league last Friday against a strong Ballyheigue in Blennerville. The Junior team has a combination of youth and experience as we strive to bring the younger players up to the next level to help progress the future of the club. In the first half, we struggled to get to grips with the game as Ballyheigue played very well and we found it hard to get hold of the ball as Ballyheigue were playing good football. But we dug deep as the first half came to an end and we got 2 good goals before the break to give us a lead at half time of 6pts against the run of play. HT Score 2-06 to 1-03. After the break, we were hit by a good goal from Ballyheigue and the game was up for grabs at this stage. We upped our game at this stage and with 20 min left we were dominant all over as we pushed on to secure a good win in our first outing of the year. We scored 8pts in the second half to secure a good win with 3 of our minors making their senior debut; Jordan, Aidan and Brandon all playing their part in a well deserved win. It was very good to see us finish strong and run out deserving winners on a final score of 2-14 to 2-7. Panel: J Fitzgerald, K Quirke, James Costello, S Dowling(0-01), N Barry, Joe Costello(0-01), P O’Sullivan, K O’Sullivan, T O’Connor, B Savage(0-04), G Savage(2-04), E Sayers, D Kerins (0-02), T O Sullivan(0-02), J Conway, A O Halloran, B Boyle, T Flynn, L Reidy, M Stack, L O Sullivan & T Farmer.

St Brendan’s Seniors:

Hard luck to St Brendan’s who were defeated by Laune Rangers in the 1st round of the Senior County Championship. They will now play the loser’s round which is scheduled for the weekend of June 7th/8th. St Pats were well represented on the night by Luke Mulligan, Liam O’Sullivan, Brendan Poff, Kieran Hurley, Andy Byrne and Paul McMahon.

Cúl Camps:

The Kellogg’s GAA Football Camp will take place in Blennerville from July 28th to August 1st . The camp is for boys & girls aged 6 to 13.  We would hope to increase on the huge numbers that we had last year.  Each child will be given free sports gear. GAA players will teach the skills of Gaelic Football in a safe and fun filled environment from Mondayto Friday 10am to 2.30pm.
