O’Sullivan Financial Services Dingle Way Challenge 2017

The Dingle Way Challenge, kindly sponsored by O’Sullivan Financial Services is less than 6 weeks away and will take place on Sunday the 4th of June (keep this date free in your diaries). This year’s route, the best yet, takes us from Dingle Harbour.

This walk is ideal for groups, teams, friends and solo hikers and unlike previous challenges, you can either opt for The  towards Ventry and then on to Murrioch, via the ancient path, “Cosán na Naomh”. There will then be a choice of 3 routes to bring us to the finish line and a truly deserved BBQ on arrival in Cloghane. The choices are:

Option 1, The Ultra route, 45km: Bus departs Blennerville at 5.30am and there is a walk from Dingle via the pilgrim path to Murrioch. There will be a brunch at An Ghaeltacht GAA Club, home of the famous O’Se brothers, and from there, climb Mount Brandon, descending via Sauce Creek and finally finishing at Cloghane.

Option 2, 34km: Departing Blennerville at 5.30am, walking from Dingle via the pilgrim path to Murrioch. There will be a brunch at An Ghaeltacht GAA Club, going back on the ancient path, walking through the valley, right under the Conor Pass and finishing in Cloghane.

Option 3,19km: Depart Blennerville at 7.15am and walk from Murrioch via Cosán na Naomh through the valley and under the Conor Pass to finish in Cloghane or walk from Murrioch and climb Mount Brandon, descending via Sauce Creek to finish in Cloghane.

Buses back to the clubhouse in Blennerville will be provided where there will be showers available for those who need it. There will also be an evening of entertainment in Quane’s Bar Blennerville where participants will be treated to an evening of food and drinks.

This Challenge gives locals and tourists alike a great opportunity to experience the stunning scenery that West Kerry has to offer in a fun, safe and challenging environment.

This year’s route is slightly shorter than last year but don’t be fooled as the Ultra section more than makes up for it. Registration can be completed online at www.stpatsblennerville.com, or either the Dingle Way Challenge’s Facebook page or St Pats’ Facebook page.

Juvenile Academy

Our Academy welcomed neighbours Annascaul last Sunday for a great morning of fun games. Great fun was had by all and we will like to thank Annascaul for making the short trip.

U6: We welcomed our friends and neighbours, Annascaul last Sunday morning for fun games. Everyone involved had fun and it was a delight to spot a lot of talent on display. Congratulations to our player of the week, Sam Smith. Keep up the good work.

U8: Last Sunday St. Pat’s under 8’s welcomed the Annascaul under-eight team to our pitch for a ‘Go Game’. Go Games, for players up to under-11, are structured in a manner that encourages a level of fun, fair play and a sense of achievement from using the basic skills of Gaelic football. There is no publicising of scores or provision for presentation of trophies so that the emphasis will be on the sense of accomplishment from playing and becoming more proficient in the skills of the game.

We had a great turnout from our under-eights panel so well done to Eddie Hayes, Sam Jones, Ben Deegan, Gearóid Hingston, Aoife Kennedy, Niamh Murphy, Chloe Passway, Stephen Enright, Ródhan Culloo, Sharon Enright, Ryan Fitzgerald, Keelin Sinnott, Cian O’Halloran and James Daly. Everyone put in a great effort against some very skilful Annascaul players and we will have a return game with them in the coming weeks. It’s important to practice your kicking skills at home during the week so try to do this for 15 minutes every day.

U10: St Pats U-10’s took on our West Kerry neighbours Annascaul at home last  Sunday morning. All our St Pats future stars played well on the day. Gary Scollard, Luke Passway, Michael Enright, Killian O’Mahony and Aiden Hayes defended well and gave it their all trying to keep the opposition from scoring. In the middle Jack Costello, Daniel Sheehy and Mark O’Brien worked very hard and linked up well with our forwards. Up front Darragh Murphy, Rory Daly, Grainne Breen, Ben Jones and Caoilainn  Culloo got their hands on plenty of ball and worked some lovely score for their team. All the coaches were delighted with the effort each player gave.  It is important ye keep practicing yer skills at home during the week We are hosting the St Brendan’s board blitz at home this Tuesday 25th at 6.15pm.Naomh Padraig Abu !!

U12: U12 County League: St Pats 4-6; Currow 5-19

We put up a strong performance in this away game, but came up short against a strong Currow side.  After a close first half, we trailed by just 2 points with our scores coming from Fionn (3 points), Diarmuid (goal), Seánie (goal), Lisa (goal) and Caoimhe Dairo (point).  We gave the full squad a run in the second half, and the resultant upset in the team balance did not help our cause.  We added scores from Seánie (goal) and Rory and Keelin (a point each).  Details of our next match will follow by text later in the week.

U12 Girls: Training continues for our girls this Tuesday afternoon from 3 to 4pm in Blennerville National School Hall. Please bring your gum shield.

U14: The U14’s traveled to Listowel last Wednesday to play in the group qualifying stages of Feile. They started off well with a victory against Tarbert but were defeated by the host team, Listowel Emmets, who now go through the next stage. Our next match is in the County League this Wednesday, away to Renard. Throw-in is at 7pm.

Minors

Our minors played Asdee/Ballylongford in the semi-finals of Division 6B last Friday and produced a strong performance leading to a well-deserved victory on a score line of Asdee/Ballylongford 4-10 St Pats 3-16. Well done to the team and mentors. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page for updates.

U12’s in Croke Park

Our U12s had a great day out at the Croke Park Blitz last Thursday.  We played three matches against Borrisokane, Adare and Gaultier (Portlaw), and all of our players got a good run-out at the home of the GAA.

Our first scorer on the day was Gráinne Breen with a well taken point.  Paddy (a goal) and Fionn (a point) added to that score in the first game.  In the other games we had scores from Daragh (a point), another goal from Paddy, a goal from Lisa and a point by Caoimhe Dairo.

The squad enjoyed a tour of the GAA Museum after the games, and even managed to meet Dancing Dessie Cahill at the Barack Obama Plaza on the way home.  Our grateful thanks to the people who helped with fundraising and food for the team on the journey.

And, of course, a big thank you to our army of fans who gave great encouragement to the team throughout the event.

Clean up B.Ville / Lohercannon / Lock Gates & Cockleshell Rd.

Míle buiochás to all who turned up for our annual clean-up of our beautiful walkways on Saturday last.  It was heartening to have such a good turn out on a beautiful sunny spring morning. “Many hands make light work” was well proven on the day. Thank you to our neighbours & friends from The Kerries, Cockleshell, Lohercannon, Hare street and Blennerville who came to help out. To those who couldn’t make it this time due to one reason or the other, please keep us in mind for next year & keep an eye on the St Pats notes.
